I think I'd want the full picture not the report in the paper, noise pollution is a blight and the council probably has a duty to follow up complaints seriously. 'But it's for charity' doesn't mean pass go and collect £200 regardless.

Talking of noise pollution; are you going to be bending my ear riding to Whitstable

I have thought anyone organising such an event for Cancer Research would have had at least some idea of the law regarding PA systems. The problem is that if a set number of people complain the council must act upon them.

I'm not defending the enforcement officer but the event organiser really should have known better.

don't know yet, current plan is yes unless work gets in the way, I is in servitude to the US right now, so some weird time demands are the norm. not impossible that I could be in meetings when you're riding to Whitstable.

Yes, I bet they were coming out of the sun.

Hate to be a killjoy but it was the Hawker Hurricanes which won the BoB. I had one that flew on a wire when I was a boy so I should know. ;)

According to a recent TV program the ME109 was far better than both as a fighting plaform. What did them in was the orders they had to stick with the bombers.

If you think this guy is an officious little shoot, wait until Davey boy gets his big society off the ground and his type start volunteering for for everything. What it needed was a bit of direct action. Imagine 200 cyclists booing and giving him the slow hand clap.

I don't understand the headline properly... "to put a spoke in the wheel" is surely a good thing? (as in wheels need spokes)... shouldn't it be to put a stick in the spokes, or something like that? However a quick google of the idiom tells me that it has been used correctly. But it's still odd, in my opinion.

OK, as you were, there's nothing to see now, move along please.

So, a bit like "cheap at half the price". Well, duh....

Does sound as if the council official was being a lot anal over the level of the P.A. system. Probably less volume than a music fesival. As for hiding in the bushes, bloody coward.

We had a weird situation here where Portsmouth City Council was complaining about the noise levels of A Gosport Borough Council event!

The measured level a mile way across the harbour in Portsmouth was too loud, but Gosport thought the much higher level at the concert was acceptable!
