If they are worn. Change them. They are cheap and it will extend the life of your chain.

Nope. Quite a fastidious cleaner. And I service them. 365 day use in all weathers. They are on my audax bike. (And used on the turbo)

I am a bit surprised, I usually get over 12k miles before the bottom wheel starts to go. Perhaps it is the servicing that causes the issue as all I do is clean them, I never take them apart.

I once replaced a set of jockey wheels. It gave me the that feeling of astonishment when, having taken something to bits and put it back together, it still works!

I doubt it made a damn bit of difference to the bike.
