Well, write it down boy ......
I understand your pain. I enjoyed his books (the ones I’ve read) a great deal.

But could I suggest an alternative? Slightly different genré but equally enthralling is Philip Kerr’s series following a German police officer before, during and after the 2nd WW.

IMO, Bernie Gunther is the best character in contempory literature at present.

Agreed, the Bernie Gunther novels are very good aswell. You also get to learn a little of the history of that time aswell (eg the kripo detectives were forced to join the SS, whereas I had always assumed all the SS were die-hard Nazis).

Robert Harris is a cracking author also.

I must admit that I never really got his books either. I've read The spy who came in from the cold and Tinker but I found neither engaging or particularly interesting.
