Evening all,

Just about dried out. Was disappointed to see rain when I awoke at 7am this morning, but persevered anyway. Did the Avon Cycleway which is 85 miles and did an extra 15 to complete my first ever 100 miler. Averaged 14.4mph with one stop bang on 50 miles in at Chew Valley Lake. 4 of us did it, but considering 9 said they were gonna do it, you can see how many wimped out!

Averaged 133bpm for my heart rate so managed to pace it just right, so feel well prepared for my first ever 200km audax next week! The rain was an absolute pain, but made it all the more memorable.

Notes: -
- Need waterproof gloves, my fleece Adidas running gloves were sodden and my hands got pretty cold.
- Need decent overshoes as my feet were also sodden.
- Crud RoadRacer 2 mudguards are made of absolute win.

Thoroughly enjoyed my day out, legs surprisingly feel really good, i'm just absolutely knackared!

Cheers,

Jon.

Well done!
I looked out the window this morning, made a cuppa, watched the rain and returned to bed, so I admire your spunk. To make your first 100 in such miserable conditions must make it all the more rewarding.
Regarding kit, it's only when you start pushing-out the miles that you realise the value of good quality kit. Being sodden for 30 miles is one thing, it's a different matter when you have another 70 to go.

Pour yourself a large beer, you've earned it.

Well done, I think I would have said sod it and went back to bed  Pretty good speed average especially as its not a fast rouite.

Well done! Beer is definitely in order!

I'm another one who pulled their head back under the covers on seeing this morning's weather, hopefully next weekend won't be quite as soggy.

Congratulations! And particularly for doing it in such awful conditions!! I commute in all weathers so when it comes to weekend cycling, I'm very quick at going back to sleep if there's the merest hint of drizzle!!!

Thanks everybody!

I forgot to mention I also had a clipless moment 25 miles in at some annoying metal gates around Avonmouth. Got more wet and slightly twisted my ankle and bashed my knee. Epic journey.
