I used t watch Jools avidly, but not now, esp since I read about how much of an agent/elitist thing it can be to get on his show, not just genuine talent spotted out there in the pubs and clubs.
However, Jools himself is a very talented musician, but not the most inspiring of presenters. I like his piano style, personally, just wish he'd not try to accompany quite so many people.
Hootenanny (just going through watching bit I like etc)
Ruby Turner: bit of a grand old dame of British soul these days. Used to be great, but a bit safe and dull these days, much like Jools himself.
Seasick Steve: I think he first got widely known through his appearance on a hootenanny... still got it, even f not quite such a revelation any more.
Gregory Porter: take that bloody hat off mate; it used to be intriguing, not it just looks silly. But you have a great voice.
Chaka Khan: she's aways had a great voice. Growing old disgracefully, in a good way.
Christine and the Queens: ???? you what?
Rag and Bone Man: great voice
Roy Wood: has earned the right to be indulged a bit.
Caravan Palace: interesting take on Black Betty, but... not so sure it worked. The singer has a certain spark about her though.
ABC/Martin Fry: still got it. Lexicon of Love II is a terrific album
UB40: Used to like their stuff, but Ali Campbell' voice grates on me
Imelda May: marry me, please.
John Cooper Clarke: hmm... stick to the poetry mate... like someone's pissed uncle at the pub karaoke
