I can't beat that but many years ago one of the neighbouring houses, which is converted into flats, had their York stone flags stolen. Some men turned up saying the Landlord sent them to do some work so the tenants let them in. All the stone flags were lifted from the basement floor, and the men left. The next day the men arrived and put all the flags into a lorry and left.
A few weeks later the tenants asked the Landlord when the work would be finished....
Having said that, my driveway stone gateposts and stone wall at the front of my garden didn't originally come with my house. The other neighbour's haven't missed them.
