Just a little bounce and glide

I've been training for a duathlon all year. It's on Saturday. 17 mile run and 26 mile ride.

Then this morning on the way to work I failed to make it round a corner and ended up sliding over 3 lanes to the far kerb. Skinned my hip, banged my knee (and although helmets don't work at the speed I was going, I'm glad the grooves that are now in mine weren't in my head), damaged my de-railleur, can't use low gears 'cos the jockey wheel will go into the spokes.

Luckily the following traffic was all able to stop safely.

So it'll be tinker-time tomorrow, and ibuprofen on saturday morning.

FFS!

Ouch!

I hope the ibuprofen does the trick. Where did this happen?

Coming out from under the railway to turn onto George IV Bridge - the secong sharp bend after turning off Eglinton Street/Pollokshaws Road as you go through the one-way.

There was a slight pedestrian involvement which caused the break in the traffic for me to slide through. At first I thought that was lucky but realised I'd probably not come off if it wasn't for her contribution.

Yikes that could have been a lot worse. A lot of traffic around there!

Glad your ok!

Similar thing happened to me last week. It was horribly rainy; I must have hit an oily patch or some other slippery surface. Before I knew it, I was sliding along the tarmac.
First thing after scrambling on my feet again was to check the bike (priorities!) and then got myself home. I got typical grazes on my thigh and knee and it hurt like hell.

So, you have my commiserations and get better soon!

P.S. Try hydrocolloid or calcium alginate dressings, they really help with the healing.

A wee drop of the hard stuff helps the ibuprofen go down in the evening and soothes the aches... Just remind your self that pain is good for you, it make you stronger...

uh huh

I had a silly one a couple of weeks ago, while finessing the new commute I was doing a silly shared bit of cycle path going against a one way street, followed the bike in front on a cheeky pass on someone creeping along, into the road and back up at a dipped bit, no idea what happened but I must have clipped the curb somehow and lost the back wheel and went headfirst over the handlebars, closely followed by the bike somersaulting and crashing down next to me, al rather embarrassing, the sundry peds were all very nice and asked if I was ok, the six odd cyclists nearby all carried on, nice

Well, I fitted a new mech hanger on Friday, and adjusted the gears.

On the run I was slower coming off the hill than I'd have wanted, because of my hip. On the ride I lost a lot of momentum on the bends by being less aggressive due to less confidence, and being a bit of a jessie.

But.. I was inside my target time of 4 1/2 hours. I was 9th Vet, and as far as I can tell I was the first duathlete on a mountain bike, so not a bad result.

I was down at the doctor's this morning and have been put on anti-biotics (my hip is a bit ugly and smelly now), but I'll be back commuting by bike tomorrow morning.

All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
