As an aside, the most impressive investigation case he showed us was a hit-and-run that occured in the early hours in Epping.

A body was found on the road just after 2am. There were no witnesses, and the only physical evidence from the car was a fragment of broken light and a flake of red paint.

The police analysed the paint and sent the results of the analysis, plus close-up photos of the light fragment, to all the main car manufacturers.

From the light fragment, Ford was able to tell them the model and year of the car. The paint analysis showed it to be from a batch of 500 cars. Of those 500, 18 were sold locally.

The police then went knocking on the doors of those 18 owners saying "We know you hit the lady." 17 of the owners looked at them in a puzzled fashion, one of them immediately confessed.

What ever the case. If it is in the local newspaper I will see what it says.

Blimey, sounds like an episode of CSI! I didn't think that sot of thing was actually possible.

Still relied on a bit of luck and guile at the end - it could in fact have been any one of the 500 cars - but it was still seriously impressive!
