Panter... look at it this way. he was a rescue dog and you gave him the best home he could wish for and a good life. unfortunately, this day comes to every dog, and as has been said, you did the best for him as you did all his life, you put him first and not your own pain. you acted as the responsible owner you are and not all dogs have that.

don't be sad. be happy in your memories of him and know you did your best by him.

Sorry to hear about your Dog, Panter. I'm sure it must have been a very difficult decision, but when an animal starts deteriorating like that, it's only going to get worse.

I remember Marmites last day. She'd had cancer for a while. One day she went for a wee in the back garden, squatted down and then couldn't get back up, and had to sit in her own business.

Her face almost pleaded with us to do something about it.

I said to my mum, "Mum, its time to sort this out". She agreed and we got Marmite off the lawn, cleaned her up and then started sobbing with each other.

The vet made it really easy and it was all over quickly. her last look to us was a contented smile like she'd had eaten prawns (she loved them). Then she went.

Marmites last few hours stay with me now, 15 years later.

The good times you had with Bob will last forever Panter. Sorry about the loss, but its all good in the long run.

+1. Our cats have been 'rescues', and it's comforting to think about the love and care you've given them down the years. Still - a very sad thing when it ends.

sorry to hear that panter. it's a bereavement as genuine as any other, don't let anyone tell you it was "just a dog".

sorry to hear your sad news this morning . You must be devastated. When I lost my cat Hero on my birthday some years ago I was surprised how hard it hit me. I couldn't go to work for a couple of days. I didn't tell my work collegues it was a pet bereavement cos they would have thought I was daft.

There are some really smashing people on here and we all send you a collective group CC hug and good vibes . Keep your chin up

Our younger cat did her cruciate ligament last year, but being less than 2 years old, and very light, it self-healed. She was very lucky.
