The direct mount brakes are supposed to be more powerful as they have 2 mounting points on the frame using the frames strength and can be stiffer compared to a standard single bolt that is held away from the frame and only has the inherent strength of the caliper arms according to some blurb i read recently.

You have a wide choice of finishing kit - try their bike configurator - you can specify bars, stem, saddle, seatpost etc etc (you might well wish to change to a standard seatpost rather than a Monolink as you will then get a much wider choice of saddle). The Ritchey kit is very desirable and highly regarded anyway. The much wider choice swung it for me when I was trying to decide between Rose and Canyon, who seemed much less willing to be flexible in cassette choice for example. Rose also gave a discount on any kit purchased with the bike - I bought new Keos, and they fitted a chain catcher for me too. Compared with the 'Brands' you end up with a bike that doesn't need changing in any way - everything exactly as you want it, with no 'own brand' bits that you feel you need to upgrade. Given all this the value is amazing.

How did you get this discount, I have seen no mention of it when I ordered the bike?
Sprinklin, I'm 6'2" with relatively short legs but have gone for the 59 although the configuator put me in a 57. I wanted the higher headtube hence sizing up. When I spoke with Rose they were helpful and said I would fit on either. I'm happy I've made the right choice in size, we will know when it arrives.

Wow that is stunning <jealous> On the brakes, I wonder how the braking will be in the wet with them being nearer to the road spray.

Given the rotation of the wheel, a lot the spray will already have been thrown before a wetted part of the tyre reaches the chain stay - think the stripe up your back, which must also be giving brakes in a traditional position a good dousing.
It is counter intuitive, but I reckon the brakes tucked under the chain stay might stay reasonably clean and dry, or at least cleaner and drier than one might think.

I'm interested to read the opinions on the rear brake position. I'm currently ogling the Btwin Alur as my first "proper" road bike and that is the same.

I think thats what I would have done sized up from the advised 55cm to the 57cm with the Rose as i want the taller headtube but as it goes i havent been able to resist buying a 2014 Giant defy Advanced 1 with a hefty discount . I already ride an alux defy thats too small for me so the lure of carbon and one size up I'm on to a sure thing .. Still wonder about the Rose as the spec is simply unbeatable. the only small bad point except not being able to try for size that i thought of (and it is only a small point ) was because the rear brake is positioned differently there is no way of mounting a rear crud mudguard to it.

I was looking at one of these with perhaps a little too much interest. Personally prefer black/red.
Undecided about the saddle/stem combination, due to restricted saddle choice.
How do you find the wheels? Did you stick with the 'standard' DT Swiss? They're about 250gms heavier than my current Dura-Ace C24s but they would have to go as can't really stretch the budget (unless I sell the wife).
