...........is my Christmas cake! First time I have ever made one so fingers crossed! And just finished making a lot of marmalade. This awful weather has a lot to answer for!

Any other Christmas cake bakers?

I made one once, it never got eaten because I don't like Christmas cake

Don't ask me why I made one, I always buy one now, which still never gets eaten  I only buy it in case any of our guest enjoy it:wacko:

Good on you though

Well done! I used to make them, but as I'm the only one who likes them, it seems like an insane thing to do.(One year I ate most of it all by myself..:blush: ). Now I make Stollen instead which everyone loves and I have to fight to get any before it disappears. A much better arrangement.;)

Stollen, I love it. Is it hard to make or do you get someone else to do it for you?

It's been teeming it down with rain yesterday and today here - windy & cold into the bargain! Lucky you!

I've lit the fire now though:biggrin:

I make it. It's not hard..just like making bread. The trick is not to eat all the marzipan whilst waiting for it to rise though.
I make about 5 or 6 a week starting on the first of December. Stollen's just too good to wait until Christmas.

Father in law bakes 6 every year at the end of September [used to be a master baker until he retired... no, really, he was] and then spends all October dripping brandy into the upturned cakes' bases. His cakes are very popular [!]... and the icing stays soft all year in a sealed tin... what little remains of them.

Oooh, I might have a go... I'm the only one in our gaff that'll eat it though... the brandy idea is good too... some friends did the cake/brandy thing once, from end of Oct till Xmas, only for the dog to jump on the table and eat most of it on Xmas day! The dog was a bit quiet for a day or two, apparently.
