Last Sunday GtiJunior and I went to the Olympic road track and test-rode a handful of top bikes courtesy of Cyclist magazine. We spent a chilly but happy morning riding various models from Specialized, Cannondale, Scott, Pinarello and several others. Then we took out a Bianchi Specialissima and..... Oh My Gawd! After you leave the pits area there's a short climb so you need to put in an affort and in the Bianchi there was an instant flash of instinctive realisation that this is something special. Where the Dogma felt a bit bouncy and skittish even on smooth tarmac, the Bianchi felt superb. The reviews say they use a special additive to the carbon to make it smooth-riding and I can tell you that it works, it is a stunning bike and ridiculously light and it rides like a dream. If only we had been able to test under real-world conditions with some potholes and worn-out top dressing.
I've always fancied a proper hooligan bike and the Specialissima is that bike. So now the question is: how to raise the £7000 or so to buy one?
