I'm doing my Xmas decs today. Usually do them first weekend in December but as I'm out for a ride tomorrow (posting this on a cycling forum, go figure!) I'll be doing them today!

Know the feeling. I play in a brass band. First Christmas gig this aft - switching on the lights in Selby - then its about 3 or 4 a week until the actual day. Last year I played carols for the grand opening of a garden centre. It was so early I still had my poppy on!
One of the few things I miss about playing in brass bands is the carol concerts at christmas.

I love Christmas, but hate all the commercialism. The other problem I have with it is that as I'm a music teacher I have to start preparing for Christmas early enough that the kids can play in their Christmas concerts at school. The first one is at the end next week! So I started doing my Christmas tunes with the kids in the first week back after 1/2 term = 1st Week of November. I'm sick to death of 'Jingle bells' already!

Oh yes! At least you lot in England have a few weeks grace, here in Scotland the schools go back in the middle of August and by September Christmas carols can be heard coming from the music department!!

I was in the School Orchestra so I was guilty as charged, but we was only doing as we was told, honest!

If you put them up in November, and take them down on twelfth night, then the lights will have been up for 10% of the year, which is far too long. And i love christmas.

You've just put yours up then Vern?
:laugh::biggrin:
Nope. I do find some of the displays wondrous and I'm happy to let folk spend their cash and get enjoyment from it however they want. The Chateau Vernon baubles have been located and moved to their pre-erection spot from the attic position where they'll remain for quite a while yet.

I'm also mindful of: 'What you say about others says more about you than it does about them.'

There are always a few houses in the area that get their pictures in the local paper at this time of year.

Whilst I think it is as tacky as a tacky tack stuck to some blue tack on a boat that is tacking, I have, however come to accept that it is just a bit of fun for most people, and some people even do it for charity too (exactly how that works I have never been bothered to find out though).
