Wow, feel the love fellow Landrover owners, feel the love. .....seems to be an awful lot of stereotyping going on in this thread!

What are you talking about Cubist? Its hard to reconcile a Landy series 3, or Defender with a Range Rover Epuke. I've never directly owned a Landrover myself, but have purchased two for a private company and driven many more.

Urban 4x4s are generally a bit of a red flag (as in, cars that you watch out for more carefully than others). Although two of the more considerate regulars on my route are driving an X5, and a Range Rover Sport (the latter with personalised plates & window tints too).

But that is one ugly car.

Just googled it to see what it looks like.

That's.......different. Not keen. I didn't bother looking for a price. You know what they say....if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. There's a posh rangey owner or two in our town, i can just imagine one of them in it, talking on her mobile while her kids Maximillion and Roman are in the back, on the school run. And yes, they really ARE called that.

Round here, the 4x4s that are mud-splattered are driven by considerate human beings who drive one because they need to. The spotless ones fit every stereotype going. Gah.

That's my thinking entirely! Round my way there are, in general, three types of 4x4 driver:

1. The farmer/groundworker/builder/surfer-type-dude/etc in his landrover who is a normal considerate driver.

2. The large family with a second-hand 4x4 or people carrier because they need it.

3. The absolute to$$pot in his/her Porsche Caper (or whatever it's called), or his/her Range Rover Sport, or BMW X-whatever, who's a super-aggressive "executive" type in his fashionable suit with spikey hair and plenty of arrogance, or the snooty WAG-type with a fake tan and sunglasses permanently glued to her face. Those are the ones who commonly do not give a sh1t about anyone else on the road.

Just read the comments and you'll see an automatic assumption, albeit qualified with "leap to conclusion" "just my personal experience" and other such guff, that large 4x4 owners are aggressive self-gratification artists who break the law etc etc. Someone has even slipped in the word "urban" to suggest that this is only a problem in towns. So, if I drive my "chelsea tractor" "penis extension" into town to do a bit of shopping I will, almost certainly have my phone glued to my ear and call my children Philomena and Tarquin?

The mud-spattered ones round here are driven by serious off-roaders called Colin.

Well you have got a small cock as your avatar!! So we can only assume

4x4s have a place, that place is where they were originally designed for. To be used on the road or off the road. If you job or lifestyle requires that then they are ideal and you accept the shotcomings of the design.

It is then a whole different world to get a tarted up version as some sort of lifestyle choice because it sends out some sort of message. To most people the message is "I am a to**er with a complex about my penis size".

Where you tend to not get a pushy agressive driver in a Nissan Micra, the pushy agressive types do seem to gravitate towards these things. It used to be Volvos a few years ago but they have upped the ante a bit now.

Perhaps it is this general way of intimidating other drivers and trying to push their way around with the extra bulk and higher position.

Also the rest of us find it all rather sad and funny. A bit like if someone stuck a rugby sock down the front of their pants and walked around like it.

There is also the matter of driving around in something that you get 20mpg out of when you could get a similar sized car with as much room on the inside that is safer and more comfortable to drive that does 50mpg. But then I am happy that you pay lots of fuel tax.

Yep, definitely lots going on here isn't there! So what's the answer? Do we stop everybody in a 4x4 and insist they fill in a long and complicated lifestyle choices questionnaire, followed by a psychometric test, and bodymapping to check for atrophied genitalia.....................................................................,

or do we just take people as we find them?
