Oh, and for the record, I had a neighbour with beard, 2CV and he was a vegetarian. He was also an utter self-gratification artist, so it just goes to show doesn't it!

That's my thinking entirely! Round my way there are, in general, three types of 4x4 driver:

1. The farmer/groundworker/builder/surfer-type-dude/etc in his landrover who is a normal considerate driver.

2. The large family with a second-hand 4x4 or people carrier because they need it.

3. The absolute to$$pot in his/her Porsche Caper (or whatever it's called), or his/her Range Rover Sport, or BMW X-whatever, who's a super-aggressive "executive" type in his fashionable suit with spikey hair and plenty of arrogance, or the snooty WAG-type with a fake tan and sunglasses permanently glued to her face. Those are the ones who commonly do not give a sh1t about anyone else on the road.

Whoa there XMister, there's a #4......me! I need space to carry my bikes inside the pick-up bit (I don't like the idea of them hanging off the back of a Freelander etc) and also for various jobs that involve going to builders yards, the local tip (doing my bit to keep environmentally unfriendly bin trucks off the road, natch) plus assorted other errands that 'her indoors' needs doing. No school runs, by the way...I am as anti school run as most sane-minded people.
I try to drive considerately but like everybody else have my moments. My Mitsi has a 2.4 turbocharged diesel engine and gets nearly 40mpg on a very good run. That's not too bad up against many small or medium sized cars that would be utterly useless to me.

Love the look of the Evoque, by the way.

An old Sergeant of mine once gave me a very wise piece of advice "Never offer an explanation: Your friends don't need one, and your enemies won't believe you ".

There are many other good reasons to own all sorts of vehicles, but they won't fit stereotypical "happening" soundbites, and won't give anyone reasons to froth at the mouth.

Is there anything in particular, such as a personal experience, that makes you spew this irrational hatred? I personally find it a little disturbing.

+1 over time we've had every land rover on the drive (freelander, disco, rangerover, series 3) and needed them at the time for moving horses, greenlaning, use as a van in difficult conditions and we live out in the country but they've been driven into cities before (hell went to london once with a cattle trailer to help someone move) do we become tossers at that instant?

Innumerable close passes, left-hooks, bullying by driving too close behind, being forced into the kerb, their near total disregard for vulnerable road users...
And no other sort of road user has ever driven inconsiderately etc near you? Do you reserve this narrow-minded bigotry solely for 4x4 drivers, or are there other sections of society or other types of road users that qualify for your apparently pathological hatred?

When did you last have your blood pressure checked? Jeeeeeeeez.

Of course other vehicle's drivers do those things, but not as regularly as ****panzer drivers. Even white van man is more considerate of vulnerable road users than ****panzerman.

... your mind is closed.
And the thread will be too unless the insults stop.

I've been through and removed the pointless insults, apologies to those whose threads I've edited to remove stuff that they've quoted.

No more foul language or personal insults or the bans issued will not just be from this thread.

For sale, one 07 plate Discovery 3, no longer needed, apparently. Good condition apart from a couple of marks on the inside from handlebars and the occasional pedal scuff on the inner door pocket.

You may want to change the seat covers as they have been personally monogrammed " Tarquin" and "Imogen"."

Comes complete with towbar mounted bike rack. I can let you have it next week as long as you give me time to return the mud on its underside to the pristine countryside where I robbed it from, and to scrape the forensic evidence of all the cyclists and pedestrians I mowed down whilst using it inappropriately in an urban environment.

Caveat; This is a big car, and doesn't fit on normal sized city streets.

Oh, and it has a hand free kit, but I don't know whether it works, I find hand held better, and it's covered in fake tan anyway.
