I'm not quite sure how drivers can get away with killing cyclists virtually scot-free so often...

Often, if a cyclist is killed in an RTC, the only witness is the driver, so their version of events ("I was blinded by the sun", "Cyclist suddenly swerved in front of me", etc.) is the only one a jury hears.

I'm not quite sure how drivers can get away with killing cyclists virtually scot-free so often, yet when one is uninjured, the driver gets three months: http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co....ist-railings/story-21013438-detail/story.html
Because even when the evidence is good, a typical jury is composed of non-cycling motorists, who readily think in terms of 'accidents', rather than incidents that need never have happened if the driver had taken more care, or followed the highway code.

Just my two pence!
