Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
We have never had any bird injured, or any birds caught in the line. A good thick line, is needed.

Do you want to borrow my Labrador, chasing ducks is his idea of a great time.

.....simply run lines of string across the pond, which works just as well.

This is what I've done this afternoon, and we stood and watched as a pair circled overhead, swooped in, and then aborted their landing. It seems like it may work.

Put one of these close by to the pond, in a tree if possible:

A model, not the real thing.

The main point of our gardening, and the pond in particular, is to encourage wildlife. We've had over 60 species of birds visit in the last year. The last thing we want to do is scare the bejeesus out of them. No, this has to be duck-specific, which is why I thought a swan might work.
you will kill and injure birds if you use fishing wire, its nasty stuff. If you really must use this approach then use something much thicker and visible.....
I've gone for a thick orange twine across the pond. It's only a temporary measure until we can come up with a better idea. Thing is, I have an idea that many birds are colour-blind, so it won't be the colour they see so much as the thickness.

Got one. We're up at 6.00 ish, but the ducks were there first. I can't be getting up at 4.30 to let the dog out, and besides, she'll just sit in her favourite spot in the garden and take no notice of the pond at all.

Shotgun it is then.
