A lot of people have issues with cold feet. I have winter boots (Northwave: bigger than needed with thickish socks on) and thought I would give chemical toe warmers a try ( they also do full length insoles)

I used them today and a great success. admittedly a much warmer day but with my winter boots they were excellent.. I would recommend nice thick socks as the heat is quite hot and might be excessive on thinner socks. Very good adhesive onto the socks...I will be buying a stock in now from Tescos but fyi http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hot-Hands-Foot-Warmers-pairs/dp/B000YEZLD8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 is what I used

They work on contact with air, and apparently best to leave them in the open for a minute or two before using.

I have now been back well over 2 hrs ( had a 2 hr ride) and just fished them out the bin and they are still giving off loads of heat.

So for £1 a ride, I might use them 20 times a year so an excellent purchase

I too am a fan of these. And I have Northwave boots.

My feet still freeze on all day rides in cold weather though

Winter boots and, if there's going to be water on the road, Altura (3mm neoprene) overboots for me with MoreMile Colorado (high(ish) wool content) socks qv.
On basis of @jay clock 's note above have just invested in a 16 pack of insole (positioned) warmers (same make) @ < £10.
I have been impressed with these socks (for both warmth and robustness), and have just bought 3 more pairs (3 for £10):
