A team building thing. My not grown up son and his geriatric dad
Hints, avoids, where to stop, what not to do, all the usual and maybe the unusual too.

Hmmmmmm........ Well I wasn't impressed. In fact it was not good at all. But to be fair it was 13 years ago and it might have improved. Then again, it could have got worse! Thread here.

I have ridden it twice and walked most of it once and always enjoyed the trip, if you ask in a chandlers you can buy the key for the facilities and taps although the locks are sometimes broken and you can use them anyway.

We live near Honey Street/Pewsey. I’d avoid the Barge Inn but be sure to go to Honey Street Mill cafe. The section from Bath to Devizes is lovely but bumpy. The section near us is very muddy right now!!

Thank you.
Pewsey was a candidate for a mid point stop.
I'll note the Barge Inn info.

Reading, overnight with bike security.
Both arriving by train so RVP near station is required, Saturday night.

Need overnight for 2, single beds, near station
Bike storage necessary.
Suggestions?

Make sure you stop at Griffins Butchers in Newbury, right by the bridge, and buy some cooked sausages.

The section between Bath & Trowbridge is very attractive. From Trowbridge to Devizes it's less so in general, but it's a must anyway, just for the spectacular Caen Hill locks: a flight of 29. I did another bit around the Aldermaston Wharf area somewhere, and had to abandon it when the surface became gravel (not the hard-rolled type, just loose pea shingle, like on a beach).

Section around Bath & Bradford on Avon is lovely but this means it’s chocca on a sunny weekend.
BoA very nice place to pop in for a visit, and the impressive Tithe Barn is right on the canal.

It's in the diary to miss the Bank Holidays and weekends. Someone's shifts have changed
But all these grey roamers bung everything up.
Might be reduced to camping.
