Kenny Lynch - RIP

Billy Connelly once had to contact him to apologise getting misquoted in a Scottish newspaper when he was telling them a story about the boxer Benny Lynch whose career ended in ignominy after he suffered from too many blows to the head and a bad alcohol problem. The paper of course put the man's name down as Kenny Lynch and produced a picture of the comedian/singer instead of the boxer.

His music career was a bit before my time, so as a kid I was just aware of him popping up all over the place as a guest to general applause. It was only in the last couple of years that I somehow realised he was so musically talented and even wrote a pretty damn good song for those great modsters the small faces.

He was also the first artiste to cover a Beatle song. Misery, a song they wrote for Helen Shapiro but her management let Kenny do it instead.

Sad to hear this news, Kenny was a talented singer. Another piece of my childhood goes away.
