My youngest son just got his first phone, he's 14 (must be only 14 year without one) and never really pestered for one, but it makes it easier for him to arrange meets with his pals, they all text each other.
I got a capped deal at Tesco's 500 texts, 3 hours talk plus a bit of data for £7.50 a month.

He's had the phone 3 hours and just got a text.

"I am on the train.NO KNICKERS!!. Watch. www.***********"
