Glad they are gone. I cannot stand them. I used to go out on the town as a young 20-something, more often than not I'd get them after my second or third drink. They would last for anything up to 3 hours. Constant breath-holding became painful and I must have looked like a puffer-fish with an intermittent puncture. It got so bad one night that I asked a mate to punch me in the stomach as hard as he could. Shame that I chose the mate who was 6ft and 18 stone, he nearly broke both my spleens. I think it's psychological - if you manage to forget about them, they go.

The only thing I ever found that cures hiccups, is to get a paper bag and breath steadily in and out into it. I was given a medical explanation as to why it works. Apparently, the build up of CO2 in the bag suppresses the nervous response that causes them.
