We have no mains gas, but our hob is LPG. We thought about changing to induction for many of the reasons already stated - plus the fact that they look darn good. The only reason that we probably won't is the faff with having to add extra wiring, as our hob is on the opposite side of the room to our cooker. We would have had to get quite a few new pans as well and the induction hobs themselves are a couple of hundred more than a nice stainless gas one to start with. Still not decided 100% though.

Just been through this decision making process. Our Kitchen does not have enough room for mounting an oven at eye level so had to go under the new worktop. Replaced a gas oven with an Neff electric fan oven, far better for temperature control and you cook at lower temperatures so is pretty efficient. Its also got a slide under door which is really cool.

Stuck with a gas hob though. Did seriously consider an induction hob but the high initial cost and the inability to use a wok on one swung it for us.

I have recently designed and fitted my kitchen...it's huge...but I got it done cheap...anyway I went for a ceramic electric hob...if I rent this place out I didnt want to trust tenants not to blow themselves up because theu got drunk and left the gas on..

Induction hobs are superb. Instant on, instant off and they just wipe clean. Literally - they're a flat sheet of glass that doesn't get hot, so stuff doesn't burn on. Easy to wire in - we just used the existing cooker point. Two of us removed the old hob and oven, and fitted the new ones in a not-especially busy morning.
I'd also rate pyrolytic ovens. So easy to clean!!
(I don't like cleaning things, if that hadn't become apparent!)

Am cooking stir fry right now in a wok. How would I do that on an induction? Wide bottomed flatter pan?
I've just done it - Induction Wok. I have to say the Wok doesn't quite work as well because you don't get heat up the side in the same way as on gas but it does work.

Induction stir-fry pan. Got one, use it all the time.

Ah, ok, thanks, didn't know they existed.

I look at kitchens the same way as I look at Nigella Lawson, those thugs on Masterchef and those stupid recipes in colour supplements. All death lies within them. I don't mind cooking, and sometimes I quite enjoy it, but the whole kitchen-as-object thing depresses the living s*** out of me. Almost as much as bathrooms.

I expect it comes of having drawn the suckers for a living, but there's something about kitchen units that reminds me of Schopenhauer's dictum that all existence is a mistake. I've seem £100,000 kitchens fitted and those are the worst - the idea that a tap might rise out of a work surface when you wave your hand over it, and that the water should be near-to-boiling instantly makes me think of Leverkuhn in Thomas Mann's Doktor Faustus, and his descent in to syphilitic madness.

As you were........

Eye level oven and grill for me are the only way to go. I would never switch back to a conventional or under hob oven. Didn't cost me any work top space and gain two big pot drawers under the hob.

Well, you could try a free standing (not fitted, that is!) kitchen with an Aga cooker, lovely old fashioned set up, wish I had one  would even give one of my bikes for one, but never my cat, that goes without saying ^_^
Now, a gleaming bathroom where you wave your hand and a gentle hot shower comes up from the ceiling, the water just at the right temperature, that's a great idea, love it!

I would love to have a Chinese cooker, with water.

Dad used to have one in black steel and I remember him scraping the surface off each night. The water flow would save that and keep it clean and cool. On full blast it looks like the space shuttle blasting of downwards!^_^
Sadly I don't do that much cooking.

Personally I like gas and have a six ring range with a 900mm oven upstairs and a matching six ring range with a double oven downstairs. Both have electric ovens under gas hobs.

I've never had an induction hob but would like to try one.
Eye level ovens are good but at the cost of worktop space. If that isn't an issue then go for it.
