I randomly remembered that we used to have kiwi dip in the office when I worked in Auckland. For those who don't know, it's powdered onion soup mixed with reduced cream. A quick google search suggests that we have no such thing in the UK as redcued cream - so people have suggested using creme freche, sour cream, or even normal double cream!

I'm on a diet at the moment so probably won't try it. Though if I did, I'd probably go with half creme freche and half evaporated milk?

Single cream ?

That sounds very much like the ready-made onion dip you can get in the supermarket. Tesco sells it - look in the chilled part of the fruit & veg section as that's where they sell their dips and hummus and the like.

I think single cream would be too runny if making from scratch. Set natural yoghurt, maybe?
