If it’s not painful or swollen and you have full range of motion, likely nothing to worry about although could be some wear and tear depending on how old you are.
I have arthritic knees and physio advised avoiding standing up to pedal due to the load through the knees, try sitting and using a lower gear instead!

I do try to sit but when you are hitting 20% some times you need to get out of the saddle.

Once had a huge knock on my knee. After 6 months it started to ease. Bone must have been badly bruised. Then loud popping clicking noises happened. It was from gases trapped inside through the healing process. No more clicking now and back to full strength after 10 months.

Depending on the diagnosis, lots of options exist. Hopefully it’s trivial—then no treatment is necessary.

However, the physio might recommend strength training, e.g. for the quads or posterior chain muscles. Quad strength can stave off many knee problems. That might be all the treatment you need.

Some treatment options are also relatively conservative. For example, a hyaluronic acid injection can help with various cartilage issues, albeit the injection only lasts for about a year and isn’t available on the NHS.

But the best treatment option (from doing nothing to surgery) depends on what’s up with your knee, i.e. an accurate clinical diagnosis.

The first post said I still do the exercises I was given when I had problems years ago. I do single weighted extensions 2 or 3 times a week. Also I have been doing deadlifts post clicking and I’m currently up to 97.5 kilos for 2 lifts.
