As long as I breathe, I attack.
Well i have finally turned a corner with the pain , i dont know if its related but i have changed my workout routine for me legs to different exercises and they seem to be helping .
I used to do hamstring curls using a resistance band tied in a belt but i have read that i was doing nothing to activate the glutes so switched back to single leg glute bridges which still work the hamstrings but also the "butt " and sissy sqauts where my knees go over my toes .
I have also been taking the usual supplements like cod liver oil etc but added in collagen and creatine .

Have you tried Turmeric. Mrs W GP said he used it and when I tried it my arthritic wrist pain has gone.
However there is no evidence that taking collagen as a supplement has any effect. There’s a number of studies looking at rock climbers using it to improve tendon strength and repair which have negligible results.

Update
Last few days the pain has cleared up , i still have niggles and aches but that is a different part of the joint and to be expected given my age , activities and job . I just hope we have finally come out of the constant pain and stress of tyring to recover and not getting anywhere .
Dont know what has changed as it has gone from hurting to not hurting in the space of a week , i have added single leg deadlifts to work the hamstrings rather than glute bridges or hamstring curls and i did have a week off any weight training etc when we had a load of overtime .

Rest days are important.

It's been having a lot of rest ! 7 months of missing rides, physio exercises etc .

You’d think so, wouldn‘t you? But I’m alluding to the tendency to run off and do loads ‘because it’s better, now’ - which can lead to problems. When the nice lady knocked me off my bike, it took a year to get back to where I was before she ran her car up my back end. During that year,, I had to remind myself to give the old pins a chance to get used to riding again (not to mention the ribs, lungs etc).

As I'm getting older I'm starting to suffer with various joint pains.
My right elbow and in particular my knees.
It's got to stage my knees really hurt getting out of the chair or climbing up the stairs.I find my self sometimes having to take one step at a time just using my right leg first because my left leg/knee hurts like hell if I use it to take the strain.
A work colleague has recently just returned from his annual skiing holiday and highly recommended to me some magnesium spray/oil.
He suffered an injury whilst skiing and said this potion has really helped..
Going on his recommendation I bought a bottle and gave my knees a going over with the stuff.
I'm well impressed with the results.
The pain seems to of eased quite noticabley to the point I can now get up and down the stairs in a normal fashion again.
I've tried all the other magic gels to no avail,
It's abit expensive but I think it's worth a try.
I hope this is helpful or of any use to you fellow friends.

Do you have any details on this? Dosage? Pill form? Fresh? etc. I don't imagine it's a question of reaching for the spice jar!

I'm 100% in agreement on this. I was hit by a tractor in June '24. I'm lucky in that I already worked with a PT who helped me rebuild the injured areas. July and August '24 were a write-off. I got back on a bike after four months but.......

It took 12 months, September '24 to '25, to get my knee and shoulder to a point one could risk any serious strengthening programme. Only yesterday we were discussing that I could target being at my pre-crash level by June this year. Two years after the incident. That doesn't allow for any natural decline simply by being 72, not 70!!!!

Yeah. My issue was the painkillers. They were noted as ‘addictive’, so I eschewed them, and because I was favouring one side ended up with a joint problem, which then needed physio, and (I assume) delayed the recovery. The ‘joys of cycling’ eh? :-)
