I was cycling on a quiet main road late morning today doing around 15mph (light rain and wet ground) and a car comes out of a side street and T-boned me, I go flying into the road, driver and several others stop to make sure i was ok and driver gives details (also a witness), fortunately no significant injuries, but back and neck pain, large road rash abbrations to hip, cuts and bruises on legs and arms, swellings on hip/quad and elbow, thought I'd broken my elbow with the pain but got the all clear from the hospital. The driver claims he just didn't see me despite me wearing orange hivis, flashing lights, the road being almost empty etc.

Bike is pretty messed up, mavic aksium rear wheel rim has snapped, frame looks slightly twisted (though not certain), scuffs and scratches to bike, handlebar tape shredded etc. I've reported it to the police, I've also contacted a no win no fee cycling specialist solicitors for compo, for me and the bike.

Second time I've been knock off by cars now, April last year I was side swiped on the road riding a MTB but in a daze just picked up my bike and walked away despite having physical scars to this day to remind me everyday, going to go down the proper route this time!

It has seriously messed up my head, I keep thinking maybe next time I won't be so lucky! Lots of doubts about safety!

Omg that's terrible! what's the outlook? Hope you make a full recovery and GWS!

Hospital said no broken bones but I'll keep an eye out on the pain.

Setting the controls for the heart of the sun.
+1 for getting yourself checked out by a professional.
Keep contemporary records of everything; mileage, 'phone calls etc.
When I was last hit by a car, my house insurance paid for a solicitor.
It messes up your head, but build up the riding again steadily to get your confidence back.

Keep a close eye on the swellings. Ice can be helpful, as well as pain pills. I assume the hospital gave you advice

I had a haematoma on my shin which got infected and needed surgery. Two years on, I'm not fully recovered (I also have a shoulder injury needing surgery which may be the result too) so the legal claim is still ongoing

If cuts and bruises, you should be able to settle fairly quickly once recovered. If the aches and pains continue, get the solicitor to sort you out with a private physio ASAP

Have a read through of this

GWS

Just keep an eye out for soft tissue damage.

They will let me out when happy with healing, then a body brace for 6-12 weeks - Off work 6 months. Fabian Cancelara bust his back in the same place twice last year and was back racing within a couple of months .

Get well soon.
+1 on the getting checked out properly. I know that the hospital gave you the all clear but make sure you see your GP and take photos of all your bruises and abrasions.
If a bike frame looks twisted, it probably is. My Dad had a bike shop and this bloke came in and said "I've been hit by a car, is this frame twisted?". Dad didn't bother jigging it, he just glanced and said "Yup, you need a new frame" The bloke then went to his car to have the wheels checked out. They were pretty skewed too. He wanted to know if a wheel could be fixed when the rim was broken through and only held together by the tyre.

Cancelara probably went private  Probably wasn't such a bad break either. I rode horses professionally and rode with cracks in my long bones, if I could get away with it. 2 weeks healing and then back to it. I used to modify arm plasters with a stanley knife and sandpaper, having begged for a lightweight cast in the first place.

Sorry to hear about your injuries, wish you the best in recovery and case!

Hoping this pain won't become chronic but I'll get a checkup with Gp to be safe.

Get checked but with any ouchy joints, keep trying to move them so they don't stiffen up even if sore. Arnica cream can help with the brushing

I'm sure the solicitor will give you all the necessary information going forwards. When feeling up to it, get your bike checked over by a couple of decent bike shops, and get the findings in writing

Yeah the solicitor is coming over tomorrow, also wants me to go for a medical etc.

Bought the bike from halfords but will probably get it checked over by a decent LBS for a report.
