Hit and run again ! It makes my blood boil that they think we are nothing but road kill and can just drive off without a care. The Police need more powers to make this a more serious matter, the guy who hit me got away with a driver reabilitation course,no points or a fine and now I have to possibly go to court because his poxy insurance have NOT admitted fault !!!!

The Police probably do have many other worse things to do. If they don't keep on top of things then suddenly there are so many crim's about that they can't do anything about them and if they could there are no facilities to deal with them anyway.

I would put three points on her license. That's what points are for. I wasn't injured so no real damage. If she drives better then the points are removed. If she carries on driving badly but not bad enough to cause injury then points will accumulate. Eventually it's clear the driver is a real accident waiting to happen and their license is suspended.

Cranky, you've had a bad week,.........share a glass or bottle of rather nice red wine with me..........

Sh1t happens........... the problems I've had just getting to get my shoulder MRI'ed in the last 14 months...... best option is to be a couch spud... NHS can't deal with fit active folk that come in with 'performance' issues..... you can move it, it hurts a bit, you are OK ...... balls..... ;)

The NHS are geared up to the old/busted folk unfortunately.....I'm sat there in the Shoulder Clinic (a few times) ......I'm the youngest by 30 years.....FFS....

I said to the consultant..so, this is an AC strain, normally heals in 6 or so weeks,.... why am I here with problems 14 months on - I can move it fine, I can ride a bike fine, but it hurts..... the joint clunks though, I can manage the pain..... no-one has looked at the cause.............?

Oh we'll MRI it... RESULT............!

About the only way you're going to hurt her is to claim on her insurance. Don't accept a payment from them, and insist on dealing with the insurance company. That way her premiums will go up.

There are other ways but they're not legal although they may give great satisfaction :B).

earth, that, unfortunately, is how it goes.....TBH the police are busy with real crims. and little sh1ts.........

Same with my accident, all I could do was report it, no 'crime reference' but at least it was 'noted'..... hurt means in bits............really...... The other party didn't go to the cops, but they admitted liability via insurance.

The Police are resource stretched..... sting them (i.e. the driver) with insurance 'hits' - i.e. it goes on their insurance record, even if for just a new front wheel.......

At least the driver's partner made them see sense......... go via insurance and get the bike repairs sorted, then at least the individual's premiums will go up....

I empathise that the police are overloaded, and serious crime must take priority. But it does sound like this woman left the scene of an accident. This, IMO, is serious. She could have been driving whilst drunk, on the phone, it may not even have been her. You cannot tell because she didn't stop. Also leaving someone in the road without stopping shows a complete disregard to their well-being. I would say that driving from the scene of an accident should be treated very seriously - as seriously as drink-driving.

If the driver didn't see you, why did she ring the police?

'Hello police, I have driven into a pothole'

As others have said 'crock of shoot'.

Police attitude stinks too.

She left the scene of a collision and didn't check to see if you were ok.

Due care & attention and fail to stop.

I don't know the time scale for fail to report, but as she was on the other line she could claim she was reporting then?

How's she fixed for pizzas, skips and conservatories...........?

If you can be arsed.

What we need is a f***ing CTC "hit squad". A team of lawyers that deal with the really stupid drivers and repeat offenders, take them to court on the public's behalf and file legal action to confiscate their beloved car.

Keep using the phone at the wheel. Have them banned from being allowed to own a bl**dy phone for 12 months or something. Make them use a landline or a phone box (if theres any left).

Parents who dont seatbelt their kids (stand outside any school, you'll look like a nonse, but you'll see it)... if they dont care for their safety perhaps they shouldnt have kids.. and I'm not talking about the little rascal that unclips mid journey, I'm talking about the dressing-gowned that throws them inthe back, slams the door and just drives off.

Sadly, I don't think this is going anywhere. If she sticks to her story she gets away with it. The only angle you could really persue is that if she didn't see you at all she's not paying enough attention...

Can you clarify that she contacted the police, rather than them managing to trace her? (There may have been CCTV in the area which showed up her reg number.)

Her line of argument would presumably be "What cyclist. Thought I'd hit a pothole. It wasn't an accident that legally needed to be reported to the police so fail to stop/report doesn't apply..."

Why ring the police if she hit a pothole?

She rang cos she knows she hit a cyclist, and is now doing the 'cover my arse' bit.

In the OP the police said the woman was one the other line?????

In the OP, he said the police rang back and said she was on the other line. They could've traced her, left a message to call about the accident and such and such a junction...

No df ...... either a few well positioned snipers at hotspots, or proper bounty hunters bringing them in dead or alive .

A while back we had some "issues" with an abusive BA assistant on the phone. My knowledge of audio hardware comes in handy when you can record a telephone conversation. ;)

A line of approach might be to get said driver or her partner to admit it on audio. Maplin and various places produce tech that will allow you to plug a telephone into a recording device and record the conversation. The difficulty being how to get them to admit it without blowing cover, so to speak.

A common approach is to get someone more level headed to phone them, say they are representing you because xyz has asked them to and is away on business, has laringitus etc.. he/she then says "..my god? What happened exactly, my friend didnt tell me..."

Its entrapment though.

Other options. Go to the local paper if you have no joy going through your MP after the Police approach...

I will clarify.

I phoned the Police after the incident, although I gave a reg it was not correct and the car could not be traced. My description of the car was accurate though.

The driver phoned her husband and told him she thought she had hit a cyclist. He told her to report it to the Police.

Here's the ironic bit. Her front license plate apparently fell off when she hit me because it was cello-taped on. I didn't see this as I was too busy chasing her down the street in a fit of temper! But, I suspect the driver expected me to have found it and to report it and for them to be traced. So they phoned the Police.

About ten minutes after I reported the accident, the Police phoned me back and said the driver had called them and was on another line.

I have pieced this information together from the Police and the drivers husband, who I talked to yesterday.

The Police know she phoned them after I did. They know her story but no body believes it because as every has said, you don't report hitting pothole. I have spoken to the Police about this after talking to her husband and they agree that it was her fault but because there is no injury they don't care.
