Track standing last night and some silly twat comes up on the inside and *just* nudges me. Only a touch, but it was enough to take me off vertical and, clipped in, I went down like a felled tree. No serious damage, but my hip was hurting like a bastard when I woke up. Still made it into work tho'...taking it a bit slower than usual. Grrrr.

Sympathies. Things like this are what put me off going clipped... I just want to be able to put a foot out without any delay at all.

Funny how some knocks take a while for their effect to be felt.

Well done for making it to work! ;)

Rather than track stand, unclip and put your foot down. I had some twat track standing next to my car a couple of years ago, He lost balance and put a nice big dent in my wing !! Luckily for him he shot off quite sharpish or there would have been a big dent in the front of my car.

I've had a cyclist take out my front wheel, as i was indicating and going around a corner, made me hit the deck HARD.

I'd a clipless moment like that.

Stopped ok but forgot about the new procedure and started to topple. Grabbed the handlebar of the cyclist beside me and managed to keep us both up while I unclipped otherwise the domino effect would have kicked in.

Despite my apologies I'm sure that the middle-aged female on a shopper bike hadn't a clue why I did it and the lights changed before I could make an explanation:blush:

I can see the humour in it, tho' I must confess the similarity with turd-walking pooches eludes me. Thanks all for your sympathies. Oh, and by the way, I would never waggle. Waggling is vulgar. The merest of shimmies, at the very most.

I think it may be being suggested that trackstanding is inappropriate in places that aren't the track. You are the ultimate cause of your own accident - you wouldn't have fallen off if you hadn't been trackstanding. In the same way, the pooch would not be covered in crap if it had not made the deposit in the first place.

That's my interpretation, FWIW.

I just hate people who cut in from the left, anyway, so my sympathies are with you.

If I were in that situation and put my foot down I would have received more than a clip of the elbow by any twunt trying to force their way through.

IMO trackstanding is actually safer at lights and junctions (especially when using Look type pedals) - you get away quicker and are then less likely to get hit from behind when clipping in doesn't go to plan and the driver keeps moving....I've seen it happen.
