Cycling along Widmore Road Bromley. Rain was heavy, traffic was heavy. I was doing no more then about 10mph due to the slow moving traffic then suddenly a car turned left in front of me. I braked but couldn't avoid him and went straight into his near side and on to the bonnet.
Driver stopped and got out to help me up. He admitted total responsibility. Gave me all his contact and insurance details. And fair play to the bloke he was very concerned that myself and my bike was alright. I pointed out that his car suffered a couple of dents but he was more concerned about me then his car. Told me he is a cyclist and should have been more aware. After taking his details I said I would be alright, but he insisted he stay with me until I was sure I was OK to continue. He even helped me righten the wheel/handlebars.
The hit knocked the front wheel out of alignment and knocked the sti and gears out. Took the bike straight to the LBS for them to have a look over.
Just had a call back, front wheel not that bad and they have managed to true it. They sorted out the sti and the gears. Apart from that the bike escaped relatively unscathed, no scratch marks or dents. If I was going any faster it could/would have been a lot worse.
The lbs have charged me £24 for the work and giving the bike a thorough once over, so seeing as the driver admitted responsibility, was very apologetic and caring for my welfare, I have let the bloke off...he was just as shocked as I was at the end of the day and left him with a couple of nice dents in his car.
I just called him up to let him know that I am fine and that there was little damage to the bike. He offered to drive to my home or work and pay but I said no worries about it.
Feel a little knocked up where I hit the bonnet, my ribs (again) right side and my hip bone. But nowhere near as badly hurt as my last accident.
So a nice start to a monday morning....
