Sorry to hear this.

I hope you get better soon and without any long term problems. Also I hope the claim against the driver's insurance works out too.

Yup, sorry to hear about this.
Get on to the CTC. Their solicitors Russell, Jones and Walker are excellent.

I called the police station this morning, but the officer I dealt with is on night-shift. Would a lawyer need an incident number etc, or would they get that info from the police? I don't have any insurance details to hand over either, but assume these will be given to me by the officer, right?

Yes, you will need an incident number.
They should give it to you over the phone.

Also... I have just remembered. If you are not CTC, you can still use their services and join later.

Sorry to hear.

If you are a member of British Cycling or CTC you will have some legal cover for things like this.

+1 on the suggestions to go for compensation for your injury - if you are reluctant because you think it is taking advantage of the system and going for a quick easy buck you are not entitled too (as some injury claims are) but that is certainly not the case - you have been injured and suffering pain as well as the inconvenience caused through no fault of your own and there should be some recompense for that.

I'm sorry to hear this and hope you recover quickly.

I'd suggest getting legal advice from the start would be a good idea as I would not trust the driver to be honest, especially when they see the cost involved.

For example: My cousin was knocked off her bike last summer (stationary at a junction waiting to turn right and the driver turning in cut the corner straight into her) and to start with all was well, the driver admitted liability and said send the bill.

The driver is now saying my cousin rode out into her path and wants to claim for the damage to her car - not nice to deal with on top of an injury!

Sorry to hear this.
Please contact CTC solicitors.

I wish there were a 'sticky' on this forum to say what steps to take if you're unfortunate enough to have been involved in an accident. Is there one?

Got my bike back today. Can't believe there's so much damage to the frame. Probably lucky to have escaped with just the one broken bone!

ouch - that was a nice bike frame but it is just that- and can be replaced. you will never get as good a replacement collar bone as the one you were born with, unless it is a Ti perhaps?

hopefully you got some witness as drivers tend to change their mind later on.

you have borken bones so although they will heal, they will be never be the same again and broken collar bone is prone to snapping more than an unborken one.

you've had a head injury - make sure you check yourself out. you can make your own claim agaisnt hte drivers insurance, if they refuse to play ball, take your case to a solicitgor, you should get value of your bike, loss of earnsing plus compenstaion for phycakl pain and discomfort - no idea how to put a value on that.

I don't have details of any witnesses unfortunately. I was too dazed and confused after the accident to even think about stuff like that. Police officers were on the scene pretty quickly but I don't know what statements they obtained. I only know they're pressing charges.

Everything's with the solicitor now, so hopefully things won't drag on too much .

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Just seen the thread and i hope you heal quickly and without any long term after affects.
I am glad you have decided to use the solicitors and i assume any cliams will be against the drivers insurance and i have seen accounts of insurance companies trying to fob people off .
Definitely keep records of damage to the bike, repair/replacement quotes, lost earnings, travel costs , therapy costs etc .

Yep, claiming for that, plus potentially a spoiled holiday that we have booked in a couple of weeks
