did you see his insurance certificate? If not........one wonders.

Anyroadup - take the bike to Brixton Cycles, get an estimate, have RJW write him a letter - but be prepared for a trek to the MIB

No, I didnt see his cert but he was reasonably forthcoming. He named his insurer, plus I've got a photo of his license, and his registration. Would he have stopped if he was uninsured?... Maybe so, I'm probably being naive.

I dont understand the RJW link though... That will cost money, right?

ring them up and ask....

I do hope you're right about the insurance, but the fact that he hasn't accepted your entirely reasonable (nay, generous) offer is a bit worrying, As Gambatte says - it will cost him way more than a hundred quid if you go through his insurers

Have you contacted him again this afternoon ?

If not accepting it, then you can actually deal directly with his insurance yourself. If you aren't covered by CTC or BC legal cover, RLW and even Leigh Day may not take the case on without injury. They would if you were a member of the above two as they are appointed by BC and CTC.

Oh and don't settle for mis matched wheels, if you can't get an exact replacement get two new wheels, I would not accept odd wheels.

lets think... say £150 excess, plus another £150 voluntary excess, plus police involvement, plus increased future premiums
against
"Sorry, I'm a dick. Here's £100 for a new wheelset...."
Is that right? So even if it doesn't actually cost the insurer, other than admin costs, as he would pay through excess that the premium would still go up? I mean say for example a new wheel is £200 and the excess is £150 plus the voluntary would cover the £200 if you see what I mean.....

Yup.

Excess is a few hundred, anyway.

I'm guessing this is due to causing an accident so increased risk etc.

Anyway sorry to hijack thread there but was just curious.

Hope the OP gets this sorted sooner rather than later! All the above advice seems pretty sound and you did give him a good and reasonable chance. Did you ever get a reply from your text to car driver?

Take your bike to the LBS and get it properly checked over (there might be hairline cracks in the frame) , ask them for a quote for how much it will cost to repair. Then ring up his insurance company and deal with them.

If he refuses to give his insurance details, I would go to the Police and do a formal complaint for hit and run. I did it as a car driver (I was hit in the back and the other driver would not acknowledge the damage). This was enough to scare him off and make him use his insurance.

Have you not read the thread ?
Sorry for being a dick, but that was some of the sentiment expressed when I hit a hidden pothole.

However in all honesty I would recommend a call to RJW, they seem to know their stuff.

PS My teeth have cost a lot more than a wheel!!
