i suppose it was bound to happen eventually.

heading down northcliff in penarth this morning on my daily commute, pretty quick, and in the primary position to avoid the rat run cars moving in my direction.

some joker pulls off the roundabout by the custom house and moves up the hill and out to straddle the 'traffic calming' bump in his lane.

of course he didn't see me and clipped my right handlebar with the right side of his car.

my bars where forced hard right and i went down hard onto the tarmac.

my left shoulder, knee and helmet took the brunt of the blow and i was knocked unconcious for a few seconds.

i know this because the driver of the car behind me told me after i came around and found myself lying on the floor!

he also told me that the guy who hit me did not hang around long enough to check i was ok.

i made it to sit on a low wall. then having heared my say 'I'm OK mate' ALL THE WITNESSES BUGGERD OFF TOO!

i was left with a mangled bike. a broken hand and lots of minor scrapes.

a bit dazed and confused i was able to call in sick to the offce and get my wife to collect me before taking me in to A & E.

the copper who interviewd me this afternoon told me that in the last four days of this weeks rota he has had three fail to stop at the scene incidents involving cars hitting bikes.

so i am a stustistc and count myself as lucky to be alive.
+ the adrenalin comdown tommorow is going to be a bitch!

Oh that's crap.

And as for the witnesses buggering off. If you've been knocked out, you can't be relied upon to know how you are. Someone should have insisted on calling some help, should have stopped you moving really.

It's hard to do, but I've read that you should err on the side of caution when getting up from anything like that, play it safe. Trouble is, the adrenalin masks so much.

Did you get any details off witnesses?

Get well soon. And watch out for any symptoms of concussion in the next few days.

Sorry that's a close call.

I hope your scrapes and bruises heal up fast and you don't get any lingering problems.

Hell! Glad you are basically OK. What a worm, just leaving you there!

You should keep a careful record of every detail, costs, injuries, etc., just in case.

I do hope they get the sod. It just reminds me why I wear a camera.

OMFG................

Can't say any more............. too angry......

The only one that stopped in my accident was the driver, as I really had not parted company with the car. Hence me being able to twat the car with a very angry fist whilst on the road on my ass.

Can't say how bad this is......soooooo angry for you.

MIB straight away...............

Wait, so forgetting whether you were alright or not, the witnesses to a hit and run left the scene! That's such a serious crime, and no one cared to delay their journey long enough to call the police?

Glad you survived it, but the circumstances are shocking in every way.

What a sorry example of human behaviour!

When I was knocked off in York the driver also departed asap but the winesses were extremely helpful and went to great lengths to help, even taking my (unrideable) bike into safe keeping and ensuring the police got full details later on, e.g. reg no, drivers name and address (turned out false).

I'd certainly recommend reporting the incident.

Hope you get better quickly ... are there any camera's on the buildings around there ... (don't know the area yet but my sister has just moved there so I hope it isn't typical driving for the area). I still can't believe that nobody else stopped - even if they didn't witness the actual collision.

As above - that is shocking.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, and I truly hope the twat gets his comeuppance!
