Cycling to work yesterday and my chain somehow managed to tie itself into two loops. Didn't have a chain tool with me, so I had to walk a couple of miles to the nearest tube station, and take it by tube to the nearest LBS. Now they just phones and said they don't have any 10 speed chains in stock so they have to order one which will take about 3 days.

Ah well, have to take the Tempo today.

Not sure how it happened though

I get the local kids turning up with a couple of loops in the chain now and then. Most of the bikes are tripple up front and between 7 and 9 on the back. I work the chain onto the granny to get some slack and fiddle the two loops as close to each other as possible and tie the rear der up with a bit of string so that the tension is as low as possible. Then it's just a matter of faffing (remember those 'Chinese' puzzles made from bent/twisted nails?) until the loops more or less fall out. If it's a single speed the chain is usually slack (and that's the reason that it's looped) so I remove the rear wheel and do the chain fiddling bit, and make sure that the chain isn't slack when I put the wheel back.

I have a 9 speed triple, and I've had this happen to me. The chain folded in two (which I presume you mean by loops), and jammed. I managed to fiddle it loose, but it pushed the front mech out of place so when I got home I had to adjust the front mech again.

I read this then went to put a Cruzbike together and the chain was knotted, it was the curse of this thread, took me ten minutes of fiddling to sort it out.

Can't they just un-knot your old chain?
