I am attracted by the advertising for the Kodak printers, especially the price of replacement inks. Has anyone here got one of these printers. I vaguely remember reading that you have to use Kodak photo paper with them, but cannot find the reference again. I have two questions:
Do you in fact have to use Kodak paper and do they achieve the price savings on cartridges by using a reduced ink amount compared to other manufacturers.

We have a laser printer for plain black printing so the Kodak would be mostly for colour printing.

Kodak paper has a marking on the back that the printer 'scans' and configured for the best setting. However, you certainly do not need to use Kodak paper (although their photo paper is pretty good, with plenty of options).
Cartridge savings is a contentious point... Kodak make their claims based on their own measures NOT the industry standard that the likes of Canon, HP and Epson use. I believe if you compare like for like in terms of pages cost, there is little difference!
In defence of Kodak, the inks are dirt cheap to buy (by comparison) and have had good reviews for their photo printing capabilities (for the price of the machines). So if you don't plan to print huge quantities, then it could be for you. If you think you will use it a fair amount (with photos), then I would consider other printers within your options.

Thanks for the advice 2PT, and for explaining the issue with the paper.
