FWIW, I get little or no pleasure from foreigners playing for England. The whole buzz for me is that it's us against them. Opportunistic foreigners gaining residency spoils it. Other people feel differently and I accept that. I make nuanced distinctions for foreigners who grew up and learnt their cricket over here. Matt Prior, Phil DeFreitas to name but two.

Bloody foreigners.Thank god for cycling, we don't have to worry there. We have Wiggins and Froome to support.![]()
I reckon not liking someone is as good a reason as any to not pick someone. It's the real world innit? I rarely got picked for football/cricket at school and it can only have been because nobody liked me...
I follow cricket but am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think team spirit is vital to any team performance. Yes, individuals are tolerated for what they might bring to the performance but I reckon Pietersen must be either so divisive, or have done something so unacceptable, to void that principal... that's if you consider he has the form to warrant selection, which some don't. Me, I haven't a clue! He seem's more adept at playing the media game than the ECB though, not that that's saying much.
When you have a supremely talented individual you can accommodate him in a team pretty well regardless of whether he is divisive, not a team-player, disliked by the others, whatever. The plusses in having him in the team outweigh the minuses
But when the supremely talented individual's abilities wane there comes a point when the plusses no longer outweigh the minuses. That's where we are with Pietersen now.
