After 4 years and many miles, the Bontrager SSR wheels that came on my Trek 1.7 are fairly well worn, the rim wear indicator certainly says "change me".

They have served me well, and I know they would be a fairly cheap and cheerful wheelset, but being 63Kg I guess I dont put too much stress through the wheels
They occasionally flex on hills when pushed, but nothing that has annoyed me over the years.

So, looking at a new set, and I know several will say "handbuilts", which I appreciate, but am looking at off the shelf options at the moment.

Under consideration are Ksyrium Equipe S 2013, Fulcrum Racing 3, and Shimano RS80, all three options at similar money - I guess the Ksyrium benefit from coming shod in rubber, but not something that I will make a decision based on.

Would appreciate any real life experience of the wheels above, and whilst they are £100 odd more, would Ksyrium Elites be that much better - if so then so be it. (did look at a pair in a lbs, and loved them, but the price tag is more than I had in mind, though not beyond question.)

As said, I know I can get handbuilts, but if we could keep to the question I would appreciate it.

Cheers all,

Johnny

Got my Ksyrium Elite S's with Yksion rubber, but rubber is not good in wet allegedly. Wheels are great especially now shod with Vittoria Open Corsa EVO KS. My advice would be that the Mavics are good but don't be swayed by tyres that come with them.

Fulcrums and RS80s are more in line with the Mavic Elites, so I'd rule the Equipes out. I went for the RS80s over fulcrums, because all else being equal, they have a lighter rim. I race on them just fine

Had a good look at a friends Ksyrium wheels this morning, got to be said that are very nice, need to get a look at the RS80s in the flesh and then make a choice.

Cheers for the feedback chaps
