I’m going to be building myself a single speed.

Picked up a black La Quelda frame from Planet X yesterday along with some other components. My good lady bought it for me as my christmas present but I wanted to wait until after christmas knowing there would be a sale on.

May be a little while before I actually start the build as I still need some parts but very excited to be getting started.

Didn’t know it was the Holdsworth frame until I googled it. Very nice. Worth a pic I think.

From this thread https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/help-me-spend-some-money.201957/

So a bit of an update - I have commuted a bit (tiny distance) and also messed around doing some local geocaches with the kids, but this weekend finally went out for a shakedown. So what did I learn?

1.) It is not light - 11.1 KG without bottle cage and saddle pack.
2.) Despite measuring up my other bikes I had to make a surprising amount of small adjustments to the Holdsworth whilst out.
3.) Bunnyhopping at speed (cattle grid) is tricky on fixed
4.) I do not have the souplesse to handle 166 RPM without my bum bouncing around all over the place like a porn movie on fast forward.
5.) I am a little undergeared 44 X 16 (74 gear inches?) - I think it is flat enough around here to handle something a little higher, although a few climbs were a bit of a grind.
6.) I love the silence whilst riding
6.) Fixed is fun, although I still need to remember to concentrate whilst braking, indicating and trying to maneuver around traffic all at the same time.

My own stupid fault. I wanted to get it built to ride the next day. I swapped nearly everything from another frame onto it but needed a different stem because it is 1 1/8 and the other was 1". The stem I had had a different clamp diameter, which meant different bars. I neglected to notice that this meant the brake cables were too short, and came unstuck negotiating some traffic.

I was looking at buying one but they say no orange frames for at least 3 months. If the green one was brighter I might go for that, but I emailed them and they confirmed that the green is dark as on the shop page (rather than the emerald green as on the owner's bikes page).

I need an orange size M.
