I don't see anyone at the vuelta coming out as anything other than tired for the WC .

yup. agreed. It's always a hilly race - you can't race 3 weeks in that terrain without some fatigue, even with Pog's competitive advantage.

I was actually one of those expecting (wanting?) him to ride the Grand Tour triple last year - but I underestimated how much he valued the "Triple Crown". I think it's a hyuuuuuge ask to win all FOUR races!

I could imagine him losing interest in the Worlds after 2 wins (big maybe), in which case the GT Triple might be on his radar. Just depends what's going on in that crazy tufted head ...

Was out at the Heritage Day in a nearby town so tuned into the highlights. Fifteen minutes of chat, no racing, didn't show the improvised podium, no rider interviews. A very poor show, literally! Saw the podium on the lunchtime news, along with political comments in several directions which I won't dwell on after that mod instruction!

I will post a link so folks can read it, but I won’t comment here for obvious reasons.
I suggest others follow suit.

You say that like he couldn't have done that as well. Last year's vuelta was very weak.

I said that at the time. He strolled through the Tour and would have recovered within a week. Very possible that year’s Vuelta would have been little more than a training camp for the World’s.
So who has previously completed the Vuelta and gone onto win the World Champs Road race? Answer me that? and then have a look and see how many other GTs they had done that year?

The 24 Vuelta might have had a modest field IYHO, but the World Championship had / always have unsurprisingly a World class field!

There is a reason the triple Crown of Cycling is the Giro, the Tour and the Worlds.

We will never know if nobody tries, and Pog is undeniably next level.
I think Pog could have won the quadruple crown that year, and I suspect it will be his only realistic opportunity.

Saying it would be unprecendented is not really a reason that Pog couldn't have done it.

I'd be more willing to accept the argument that he risked ruining his 2025 and beyond by attempting it in 2024, but as the Vuelta turned out, I don't think it would have.
