They aren't sponsored by Israel are they though? Just an individual who has named the team after his country.

Would be the same as if the team was called Monaco Grenadiers.

Exactly this.

I in NO way support what the government of Israel are doing but as targets for change this was weak and easy. And will achieve not a single thing for those in Gaza.

Have the Spanish police been arresting and charging all these protestors, who have wrecked this Grand Tour?

What punishment have those found guilty received, if any have reached court yet?

Well, given a crime hasn't been committed they would have little grounds to arrest. Spain isn't England where grannies holding a placard against genocide are arrested.

Plus, who gives a toss about a cycling race being affected when innocent people are being brutalised? Not me.

Can't they simply be charged along the lines of interfering with the race and endangering the racers, if nothing else?

I think running into a bike race is a form of assault... Blocking the highway is obstructive under many national laws I would have thought ... But really the police aren't going to go out the way for this .... Once you get into the low hundreds it's a major pita

It's largely irrelevant where the money comes from, their job is to advertise Israel to improve people's perception of it, Sylvan Adams has been absolutely open about that.
Gazprom weren't technically the Russian state itself (a company, majority ownership by Russia), but they got the boot.

The people of Spain showed they won't let a team advertising a genocidal state race through their capital. I think that's to be applauded. The point is too not allow Israel to just be a normal other country. It isn't.

Or put it this way, is there anything a team could have as sponsorship or symbols that you would regard as a legitimate reason for protesting as the Spanish did? Swastikas? Team Legalise Paedophilia? Islamic Jihad? Team Triple-K with a pointy white helmet? I like to think that if the UCI had let one of those slip through the net we'd all agree we needed to block the race.

I think this highlights they difference between sanctions that are economic or political.

While it's nice to say the people of Spain, that's just not true. Some of the people of Spain, sure, but the vast majority roadside were there to watch the race, rather than protest.
Just sayin'.

Team Triple K have already unveiled their helmet for next season...
