Tomorrow's stage cut to 110 kms due to extreme heat warnings

I was coming to warn about the extreme heat. Absolutely boiling here in Mallorca. Cordoba expected to be pushing 40C tomorrow.
Fortunately Monday is a rest day as 42C expected.
After that, expect the opposite for the back end of the race. Rain and low 20s, so the final climbs could be a bit tricky.

I rode in Italy a few weeks ago and the Garmin showed 43.5. It was horrendous for me. I had 50km down a main road on a Sunday afternoon and seemingly the shops/garages were shut

Well it looks like my decision to head for the hills to get away from the heat was a good one, I had thought about watching stage 15 at Villaviciosa de Cordoba to see them pass twice but they've cut that section and the loop round the dam. I can't say I blame them the heat at the moment is quite oppressive and getting hotter.

As someone that starts to melt at 25C even when I'm just sitting about I can't even begin to contemplate riding in this temperature.

Before today's stage Mathias Sunekær Norsgaard (who was last on the stage and incorrectly informed he'd missed the time cut*) was saying he couldn't believe there were spectators out there - "pure torture"

*If you're 202cm tall and weigh 88kg** today's stage was not a nice one. He fought his way to the finish and the radio in his ear was telling him it was all under control but the officials told him he was 4 minutes over. They'd miscalculated, because the race had an extended neutral section and thankfully they worked it out pretty quickly

I suppose their used to it, they seem to make quite a party of it, from what I've seen whole families or groups of friends arrive the day before the race and treat it as a day out.
I've barely ridden hear just from where I've parked to where I watch the race nothing more than 5km and that's quite enough. When I drove up to Hoya de la Mora yesterday I couldn't believe the number of cyclists on the road the climb alone is 27km at around 6%, OK it's a bit cooler as you go up but it's still high 30's at the bottom and high 20's at the top.
