I am currently wearing out a pair of Altura shorts; each ride, the padding seems to be getting thinner, and my poor sit bones feel like a dog's chewing bone the next day when I get back on the saddle.

So, girls, have you found a brand/model you'd recommend?
Spent the last half hour on t'net looking at Sugoi RSE waist shorts, Assos S5, I am none the wiser. The 'techy' write-up always sounds good, but each brand is different, so there is no comparisons to be made, and its difficult to know until some miles have been done.

My ideal shorts would have the padding of a li-lo!!

I don't know about the premium brands, but Decathlon shorts seem well padded (I have men's ones but expect women's the same)

Maybe go to your LBS and try some out?

again I have mens shorts ( being one ) from decathlon and the red insert pad are very comfy and not hugely bulky. the next level up ones (orange) seemed good too.

I don't like the padding in the Decathlon ones - haven't seen any recent ones though.

The shorts I like are Orca, Mavic, Endura, Gore and Dhb bibshorts are great. Altura padding is quite thin and nowhere near as comfortable.

My favourites by far are my assos ones - I got married in a pair :rolleyes:. They don't rub at all and the place where I have problems with a rash when touring isn't irritated by them. I have some nalini ones that are ok, but I have to change them half way through the day. Some of the altura ones are the same. I'm looking out for any others. I don't really get on with decathlon shorts. I ride every day though so any effect is compounded. I ride in to work in one pair and wear a fresh pair on the way home. I save my Assos ones for longer rides at the weekend when I'll be wearing them all day.:becool:

Sounds like you need to look at your saddle and positioning rather than your shorts. I always found the Altura shorts to be far too thickly padded in all the wrong places.

I like Protective and wish I could afford Assos.

I have some Altura shorts and love them - i find the padding fine. Nalini bibshorts are also great. More padding (as in over a wider area than the altura ones) and equally as comfortable.
DO NOT buy halfords shorts!! They're rubbish - as my butt can testify....

I bought my wife some Rapha ones, and she loves them. Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to buy two during the sale, so need to find another pair...I have a pair of Gore Powershorts on order - fingers crossed they'll be just as good.

Getting the sizing right between brands is tricky, so definitely worth trying them on if you can.

I've been using cheap (but well padded, for the price), Tenn Outdoors shorts - they have a website, or you can go through Amazon.

I am a size 12 but I size down on these to a 10-12, rather than a 12-14. The padding is great for me, though everyone is different I guess. I tried some big brand shorts on in Evans but found them all too short in the body.

Now I'm spending time at work perusing shorts...have about 6 windows open with different brands and styles.

Thankyou for the tips so far, it's made me look at brands I've never heard of.

I like Pearl Izumi padded shorts. Borrowed the boyfriend's first but now have a female-specific pair and both are comfy.

I have a pair of these capri length leggings and I highly recommend them. Very comfortable and flattering too! They make even my stumpy legs look nice . If they weren't out of stock I would buy another pair and I think I would even pay full price too!
