It has been a few years since was last active on CC, but you are probably going to get sick of me soon as I am laid up and on the DL at work with nothing better to do.

I slipped going down some steps in the rain on Monday and snapped the patella tendon on my left knee. I have had it repaired, but the leg is in a brace that keeps it straight and immobile for the next 2 weeks with a gradual increase after that over the next 6-8 weeks to get as good mobility back as possible. Before I even get back on the road I will need to get the strength back into it and the reaction time needed for street survival. My springtime riding will be limited to exercise bikes until this is achieved.

I just hope I do not have to give up the fixed wheel ...

Sounds nasty. You're right in that it'll take your knee a while - possibly a few months - to heal fully. The important thing is not to push things too much, stop if it starts to hurt and follow the advice of your physiotherapist to the letter, including doing all the exercises religiously. I suspect that your surgeon/physio will regard some gentle cycling as a good rehabiliation exercise, as it's non-impact - but ask them about it before starting.

Heal well!

I've no idea what the DL is. But at least cycling doesn't use much lateral knee motion so apart from the clipping out issue (I wouldn't want to ride fixed with flats) you might be back on the bike before you're walking comfortably.

I think the term comes from baseball ... stands for Disabled List. In UK parlance, I am taking a few weeks sick leave and the choice is to either get mind numb watching daytime TV or post pish on here

There's still a few days of the 6 days London if you like streaming track cycling. That'll keep you out of our hair in the evenings!:okay:

Yep thats about the timeline I had when I sliced through a tendon in my right hand.

I can tell you now that there are certain daily personal hygiene chores that take a bit of practice to perfect if your dominant hand is out of action......brushing ones teeth is only one of the main two....

Good to know I have reasonable expectations ...

For me the problem is carrying stuff about the house as I need crutches so I now wear my my cycling backpack around the house.

Everything takes so much longer to do as you have to plan it out and act with deliberation.

That sounds more frustrating as at least I had freedom of most movement. Hope it goes well and do all the physio as advised.
