Have a look at the kneegeeks forum if wanting advice or to share experiences about your recovery. There's a long running thread for tendon ruptures, plenty to read!

It has been a few years since was last active on CC, but you are probably going to get sick of me soon as I am laid up and on the DL at work with nothing better to do.

I slipped going down some steps in the rain on Monday and snapped the patella tendon on my left knee. I have had it repaired, but the leg is in a brace that keeps it straight and immobile for the next 2 weeks with a gradual increase after that over the next 6-8 weeks to get as good mobility back as possible. Before I even get back on the road I will need to get the strength back into it and the reaction time needed for street survival. My springtime riding will be limited to exercise bikes until this is achieved.

I just hope I do not have to give up the fixed wheel ...

:hugs: best wishes for a quick recovery.

Good to know I have reasonable expectations ...

For me the problem is carrying stuff about the house as I need crutches so I now wear my my cycling backpack around the house.

Everything takes so much longer to do as you have to plan it out and act with deliberation.

Tissue related hygiene aside for a mo  It's taking a brew from one room to the other that was my big problem with crutches. I figured quickly to set the kettle and stuff up in the living room now and brought water by bottle from the tap in my little bumbag when I needed it.

Ah yes, I have managed the single crutch process of transferring a brew from the kettle to the kitchen table, but would be wary of longer trips into the realm of soft furnishings.

I need to get one of the kids to rummage through the cupboards to retrieve a thermos I can use for hot beverage transportation.

OUCH and OOOYAH !  Very sorry to hear this @Touche but maybe it's not a bad thing, as you haven't been heard of much since you last smashed yourself into a post ... If this is what it takes to get you back - I hope you have learned your lesson !!!

Anyway ... if there's anything I can do to prevent you from becoming Mod-heavy on CC, let me know and I might even come for a visit and ... wait for it ... make you a :cuppa: !

GWSlowly and carefully. :hugs:

We have moved since then ... now in the wilderness known as Bonnyrigg in the new development. I have also had a longer commute imposed on me as we were moved to the big office beyond the Gyle.

ETA: Not that I will be commuting for a while. When recovered enough I shall experience the joys of logging in and working from home.

Success!! ... and without those pesky kids.

Now sitting down in the living room with nearly 2 cups of tea in a thermos and half a packet of plain chocolate digestives.

So far I have managed to avoid putting the TV on.

Not quite. an act carried out with folded tissue. .....hhmmmm I'm not sure I'm changing any minds here....

Spoiler Alert: Some may find the following unpleasant... don't blame me if your curiosity gets the better of you.

I have just had my first folded tissue moment following the operation. In an ideal world one adopts a posture that provides the most assistance. Unfortunately with one leg in an immobilisation brace that is not possible. Fortunately, we have something within range at the right height to allow me to elevate the ankle above the hip.

Console yourself that you have your usual hand to work with and that you have the flexibility to adopt the required position or you might have needed to employ the service of the bog brush.......or a trusted friend....

Hope the healing goes to plan Touche.:okay:

I saw the consultant today 2 weeks after the operation and all is going to track with the wound healing well. Happy for me to return to work next week, The only complication is that I am to keep the leg straight in the brace for another 4 weeks, so travel will be a challenge. Fortunately I can work from home most of the time. It turns out that this additional 4 weeks is because he is concerned that I could damage the repair as my quads are well developed. A bit ironic as this will delay my return to cycling which was the cause of the developed quads and I will need to build them up again when able to.
