Ouch!!!! My teeth are hurting just thinking about it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

There is a lesson in there for others though. Its well worth spending time in an empty car park practising emergency braking till your rear wheel is just lifting and bracing yourself against the bars to stop yourself going over them. Then hopefully when an emergency does happen, there's a much greater chance of not panic grabbing the handful of brakes that throws you over the bars. I have come to appreciate the time I spent doing it just as I appreciated the time I spend on a skid pan with a car when I hit icy conditions.

funny enough i was quite good at emergency stopping, i've practiced doing stops where the rear wheel comes off the ground few years back. sometimes i used to do that when stopping for red light - to amuse myself and others waiting at the junction. later i stopped doing that as i thought it's a bit childish and hard on rear wheel. over the last three years i had many encounters where i had to emergency brake, handful of them was with the rear wheel lifting off the ground. i didn't go over the bars once.
this time it was either bad luck or some road irregularity which launched me over the bars while braking.. here is my post few months back:

you only need to use your front brake if riding on the road (for loose surfaces both brakes are equally important). as others said use 1 or 2 fingers. for complete confidence choose safe area and practice to stop doing front wheelie without going over the bars. it may sound extreme, but worth learning.

OW! Makes me shudder to think of broken teeth issues. Hope you get it all sorted. And hope the idiot who did it to you pays for it!

Oh no! Sorry to hear this, Rimas. I guess the elbow may take a few weeks to heal, but I hope the pain subsides quickly.

It's worth speaking to the CTC's solicitors.

Speak to CTC &/or a solicitor - the guy is clearly at fault and liable for your injuries. If he has insurance that will cover him if not, you call as to whether to chase him personally

Definitely focus on getting better for now and then have a chat to CTC.

I had a crash a few years back but felt that both being cyclists (head on round a blind bend), the gentlemanly thing to do would be to offer new forks as my bike had survived the crash in better shape (the crash was 50/50). However he sued me, I couldn't afford a solicitor and so I ended up losing. Since then I'm afraid I've held the view it's everyone for themselves and as the other guy caused your crash I'd hold him liable for all your bills.

I'd suggest getting the ball rolling ASAP, rather than waiting too long. If nothing else, jot down all the info and memories of the event quickly, before the brain starts to lose them or make other stuff up....

Sounds horrible, I hope you recover quickly. How can a cyclist not see another cyclist for goodness sake, we have the best visibility of any road user!

Sound advice - get your own details down on paper asap and get witness statements - if you later decide to bin them, nothing lost, but if you don't document till long after then their value is diminished
