This is a running theme but this programme is another of Mrs rich p's favourites which I vaguely have to watch by proxy.

What a heap of whimsical tripe!

I have previously railed against Wallender, New Tricks and probably some others. This one takes the biscuit thoughxx(

This is based on the book by Flora somebody or the other is it not? I remember it first time around - when everyone got a Christmas present of a Lark Rise to...table mat, diary, jotter, napkin etc etc xx(xx(

Kept the charity shops in stock for the New Year though.

Too little left to the richness of the imagination on Tv when compared to books. The fantasies that whirl around in my head are far wilder than those depicted on telly:ohmy:

Tonight's edition dealt with Measles and consequent infant mortality, it could hardly be described as whimsical.

I think it does a fair job of depicting the attitudes and language of the age.

Also, Julia Sawalha is yummy..........

It's a great book. The programme bears absolutely *no* resemblance. One of those 'inspired by' jobbies. (And I use the word advisedly...)

Well, I like it! *sniffs*

It's a bit lightweight but I like that sort of thing on a Sunday evening, winds me down nicely ready for work next day.

I am fascinated by the total lack of real work going on. Last night it took about 30 of them a week or so to cut an area of nice modern short corn about the size of my lawn. I rather thought agricultural workers in the mid 19th century got up before it was light and worked like stink all day until it was dark again.

I have used a Suffolk scythe in my youth, and would have stayed two counties away from anyone swinging them about the way the cast were last night!

Measles was OK, but I would have preferred bubonic plague. I have to sit quiet and shut up while it's on because Mrs P thinks it's real.

I'm another sufferer... I kind of half listened to it last night.. I think everyone died in the end..

I had to soften the blow by using the time to order some new calipers and a rear mech...

I have to sit quietly, and also take responsibility for ensuring it's recorded in case anyone phones while it's on!

Last night I read cycle while it was on, so failed the viva at the end. I gather someone died.

Whilst the books may be of some interest to social historians, Thompson's not the most riveting of writers. Lark Rise is probably the only book I was forced to read at school that I've not subsequently re-read - dire stuff.
