The down bit I like, not sure about the up

If you carry on past Tatton towards Ashley to the cross roads ( Greyhound pub) go straight across and stay on that road untill you drop down to the River Bollin valley then climb back up to castle hill and the airport tunnels

.
I hope the ride was as good as the weather, fellas. You had a glorious day for it. I'm really pleased for you (and very jealous!)

Had a grat time today. Set off from Rochdale about 9.30, then had an unplanned defaltion just before Hebden bridge so ended up playing catch up even more than I'd anticipated. Caught up with the group near Haworth. Then a beautiful ride through some lovely Yorkshire countryside thanks to the bright but chilly weather. Stopped earlier than planned for lunch, then took the widdop route back, discovering the road is open at weekends. Callum had gone on ahead to try and catch a train. I left the others in Hebden Bridge, on their way to Railway Station to check Calum got away OK.
I set off home to walk dog, feeling fine until at junction of Kingsway and Milnrow road car turning right pulled across the junction in front of me, just as the lights were going to yellow, and I crashed into the rear quater. Bounced off the car then the road, helmet left a big dent in the panel! Fortunately the driver and a witness stopped so got all necessary details. Main damage is my front wheel is knackered, but rest of bike seems OK. My shoulder is a bit bruised, and I've got a cut by my eye, but got off lightly considering really.
Driver admitted blame, failing to give way. Said she'd not seen me behing another car that turned left so thought it was clear. I has both front lights on and was doing a reasonable 20 mph. Lights changed just before I crossed the line, but I couldn't have stopped, as demonstrated by the fact I hit the car!
Got a lift home from the driver (!), had a shower and walked the dog. I'm mainly annoyed with myself for letting myself get hit and not riding defensively, I'd thought as I approached, "if the lights change and the car goes I'll be in trouble...oh sh*t!"
Apart from that a Brill day, thanks ColinJ, Brompton, Calum, Pennine Paul.

Ouch Svendo!! Hope you feel ok, rest up good sir!! At least she admitted blame and didn't leave you stranded with a knackered bike, seems like she was genuinely sorry.

I had a good day today, I don't think i've ever laughed so much on a forum ride!! Bromptonfb nearly made me choke on my lunch several times. Due to my lack of miles, my legs feel like jelly at the moment, I could barely walk up the stairs when I got in.

Thanks for an enjoyable day, folks.

Yikes Svendo!

I'm glad that you weren't badly hurt but I was only thinking earlier how nice your new(ish) bike looked and then it goes and gets pranged!

It was nice to meet Pennine-Paul who bravely suffered an endless succession of tough hills on his fixie. He's probably muttering at me now, but he was polite enough not to do it within earshot of me! ;)

As advertised, I did some grovelling on the 25% climb out of Goose Eye. A friendly local at the roadside looked down the hill, looked back at me and gravely suggested that perhaps it would help if I selected a nice low gear for that climb. I was in my granniest gear and chewing the bar tape off at the time ... Ho ho - laugh? I nearly did ...

Shaun's GPS was giving him some problems, as were his ears! He went straight on at a junction above Goose Eye. The fact that I had plotted the route, knew the road, had my trusty reliable GPS switched on, and both Svendo and I were shouting "You're going the wrong way!" didn't put him off! He took Paul on a scenic tour of somewhere else, while Svendo, Calum and I headed off up Newsholme Dean, as planned.

Eventually we all got back together again.

I managed to pull my back wheel out of the dropouts twice by trying to power up a short steep climb in Lothersdale. I've never managed to do that with Shimano or Campagnolo quick releases but I now have Mavic ones. I'll have to make sure to do them up extra tight in future.

It was lovely sitting out in the sunshine for our early lunch stop which we decided to take at The Black Lane Ends pub before descending to Laneshaw Bridge. Lovely, yes. And also very cold in a chilly wind!

Having changed our plans, we decided to change our route too. We'd been through Oxenhope and over Cock Hill already earlier on so now we were no longer going to the cafe at Moor Lodge, Scar Top, there was no need to ride back that way. Instead, we rode the second half of my 'Trauma of Trawden' loop.

The Killer climb at Thursden (before Widdop) was as evil as ever. When we regrouped at the summit, Calum fancied his chances of getting back to Hebden Bridge for a train leaving about 30 minutes later. He managed it once before. Go for it!

The rest of us meandered back to Hebden Bridge at a more sedate pace.

Svendo was in a hurry to get knocked off his bike near Rochdale so he said his goodbyes and rode away. Shaun, Paul and I rode round to HB station to see if Calum had caught his train. He was sitting on a bench on the platform, having missed the train by 5 minutes! We kept him company until the next one was due.

Yes, another fun forum ride, this time in glorious sunshine! Pity about the cold wind, but let's not be ungrateful. I'd rather have a cold sunny day, than a mild gloomy one!

Other local forum rides are coming up on Sundays 20th and 27th of March. I'll see some of you for them!

Sounds like another typical HB forum ride, Shaun goes the wrong way, Colin changes the route, though let's hope the sitting outside for lunch continues

Any ride with grovel in the title and I would expect you to be in your granniest ring at some point Colin

Sorry to hear about your mishap with a hapless motorist, glad you weren't too badly hurt. Possible new bike?

Thanks for colin for yet another good ride.
Nice to meet you again calum. Nice to meet you again svendo and thanks for coming with me on the extra climbs. Nice to meet you paul and bravo for sticking at it AND smiling.
It was bloody freezing at the lunch stop.

I collasped straight into bed when i got home and fell asleep. That was one of the hilliest rides i've ever done, 2629m climbing and over 118 km according to my garmin, i'll check it later, still knackered.

Once again cheers for the company and making me laugh.

Thanks for the concern from all. Shoulder's a bit sore and will probably swell a bit. The bike is fine, I've given it a thorough check over can't find any new scratches even. The camera's charged up now so here's a picture of the front wheel which is goosed:

We told you those red spokes would get you into trouble, but would you listen to us - no! ;)

I was tired last night and my legs are stiff and sore today. I'm going to have a very quiet day recovering.

I'm quite surprised at how much effort my upper body had to put in on those steep hills - my arms, shoulders and back are feeling the worse for wear too.

PS I've just looked up how much those wheels cost - I hope you don't have any problems claiming off the driver's insurance!

Sorry to here about your altercation with the car,the outcome could have been a lot worse,
bikes are easy to repair bodies less so

Really enjoyed the ride though, apart from some of those evil hills, what madman decided
to make a road up that small mountain near widdop???

Gonna try flipping the wheel round and use the freewheel
for the next ride,at least I'll be able to keep up on the downhills,
after riding fixed for three years I'm gonna have to retrain my brain
to cycling with these new fangled freewheels ,I'll see how the next ride goes, might even
fit one of those derailleurs to help me get up the hills, thanks for all your patience waiting for me
at the top of all those hills, most other cycling clubs would have left me alone in the wilds

apart from a slightly sore butt am feeling fine this morning

Nice to meet you all, Looking forward to the next ride especially as it cant be any hillier than that one

The century ride on the 27th would be perfect for you on fixed, Paul! It's not completely hill-free, but it is downhill or flat from mile 12.5 to mile 80 and most of the hills in the last 20 miles aren't bad.

Never EVER say that! Colin's brain will immediately begin plotting!
It would be hard to pack in more hills per mile, but we could always do more hilly miles! ;)

Never ridden over 60 miles ever, can see my self getting to Blackpool
and finding a b&b and coming home the next day

I'll see how the Waddington ride goes first before comitting to the century ride

Paul, my longest ride was 60 miles before I did a 115 with these reprobates last year, and this time it won't be as hilly. Come on, you know you want to
