I remember a lad doing a sliding tackle and the box of matches in his pocket went off, burn't a hole through his trousers and his leg - teacher dragged him about by his ear for a bit, confiscated his smokes and made the lad finish the game.
Ahhhh..... that explains it then! Although having said that, son in still in a very concrete phase of his moral development and as far as he's concerned smoking is BAAAAAAAAD! A boy less likely to have a box of matches in his pocket you will not find!

Hah! I beg to differ. My boy wouldn't be seen dead with a box of matches. This is his preferred method of ignition

ALL significant risks MUST be recorded and the control measures implemented to reduce those risks MUST also be recorded.
I spend far too much of my time, in a relatively risk-free office environment, explaining what a significant risk is, as opposed to an insignificant one, and how come it is me who gets to decide the difference....

Worthy TMN btw.

I spend a good portion of my time explaining to people that what they consider to be insignificant is significant , and should be recorded and have appropriate controls. and why they need to have them controls .

Allow me a little rantette!

Son (age 10) plays football for school and the have training on tuesday after school. Usually he takes tracksuit but today there was a match with aother local school, so he didn't take tracksuit as school strip is provided which is then brought home, washed and taken back a few days later. Pitch was water logged so match was cancelled.

Teacher rang me whilst I was at work to tell me this, and said she would run a training session but could I bring his tracksuit in? I said I couldn't bring his tracksuit in as I was working but it was fine by me for him to train in his uniform. She said he wasn't allowed to play in his uniform. I asked why, she says "its because of 'Elf and Safety reasons".

I was too annoyed to ask if his uniform would self combust if he played football in it, I'm sure it doesn't because son tells me they play football at lunchtime without getting changed and I've would've noticed if he came home in a smouldering uniform. Add to this, I've been a paediatric nurse since 1992 and I've never yet met a child who came to injury through playing football in their clothes.

What do you think of this nonsense CycleChatters?

I would imagine it is the stock answer due to parents throwing a hissy fit at muddy ripped clothes, what you have to remember some of the time is not all parents are reasonable or sane i.e.

Teacher: Hello Mrs X Match is cancelled, he needs his tracksuit, can you bring it in
Parent: Can't am at work , let him do it in uniform
Teacher: Ok

Child is collected/arrives home with ripped grass stained muddy uniform

Parent goes ballistic, teacher says but you said it was ok, parent said did not say it was okay for him to ruin uniform and then causes big fuss and hassle and things!

Hence stock answer being no playing in uniform when it is an official school activity
