Don't ever chance it through that very small gap between range rover and traffic island when the traffic light you're filtering towards, might turn green!

Range rover bumper shaped bruise on my leg, and egg all over my face now :blush:.

The front of the queue should never be your target. Filtering safely is your main goal with progression being secondary.

Listen to your Uncle Gaz above..
Impatience can be a killer... glad to hear you got off lightly and am sure you have learned a valuable lesson.

Unless I saw the light just change to red I tend to hang back in the queue; but hindsight is a wonderful thing, I hope the bruise isn't too bad.

Better egg than blood though

Well, the 'collision' (sic) was at about 4mph, so the bruise is, rather fittingly, about the size of an egg  . But yeah, I will definitely be hanging back a bit at lights now, and will not be so complacent in the future.

Thanks for the input guys

yes, I've slowly got more and more conservative at lights, and watch others around me charging for the front with amusement

never go near Range Rovers

What hlab said.

I find the best technique is to watch for the lights turning from green to red on approach. If you know the route, then you know how long you have to make it to the front. If the lights are already red on the approach then they will turn green soon leaving you vulnerable.
