True, it isn't often the Learners you need to worry about but the instructors are often a different matter.

You're right!

I came up behind a Learner a few weeks ago, as I approached the reversing lights came on, I stopped.

Frantic waving from the pasenger seat, eventually he half climbed out and and shouted, "come past!" , to which i replied " Not whilst the reversing lights are on and not until the driver acknowledges that I'm there"

He then jumped out the the car and approached, waving his arms and said " The ****ing lights are to tell you what's happening " at this time the car was till in reverse, the engiine was running and the leaner was on on her own...

Eventually he went back in and the car pulled forward.

I asked if it was his business, it was, not much point complaining....

You can complain to the DSA though, and make a point of mentioning that the instructor left a learner in charge of a vehicle

on a test..

sticking the car into reverse would *surely* be a fail , wouldnt it?

mirror -> signal ->manouvre..

or at least, i *think* thats what my instructor told me!

The instructors attitude was that the reversign lights were an indication.

well yeah.

leaner shouldnt have started the move if you had been visible... as that shows they didnt look properly...

once they started, then i'm at a loss as to what he thinks you should do? you saw a person executing a move, so you wait?

I suppose it's one of those 'no you go, no you go', but to show the learner wasnt going to move, then surely the idea would be to take it out of reverse? same as cancelling the indicator signal?

I mean, how are you supposed to know what reverseing move they're going to do , parking, round corner or 3pt turn?

Unfortunately not a guarantee the front end of the car will maintain its current orientation whilst doing so?

Exactly my thoughts.

Unless I have a clear indication from a manouverign driver ( or a Banksman) I'm not going to manouvuer around a manouvering vehicle. Reversing lights tells me that I don't know what the front end of the vehicle is going to do, so I stop. If they want me to start manvouvering, then they need to stop their manouveur . That way there is only one vector that has to be dealt with.
