Yes cycling and skiing have many things in common including the muscular strength and finesse of balance and weight shift. Alongside those human skills are the varieties of equipment, which are an endless source of discussion.

Winter sports are for nobbers
Absolutely! If you're so stupid to go skiing in Scotland where you have to wear a neoprene balaclava to prevent the skin being whipped off your face by disgusting weather, you are indeed a world class nobber.

I tried snowboarding lessons on a dry slope. I am a reasonable skier (originally having learnt on a dry slope) and skateboarder as a youth. Result of lesson was a snapped little finger. If you are going to learn go to an indoor snow centre like Tamworth. You tend to fall down the hill more on a sowboard as it is easy to catch your downhill edge, learning on snow is going to be easier on the body. Age shouldn't be an impediment unless you have some health issue.

Hurricane in Tignes, eh? I’ll tell my buddies out there to stop throwing snow balls at each other and get under the chalet foundations toot sweet.

Seriously, Mr G is in Val D'Isere at the moment (I'm joining at the weekend) and they've closed the mountain completely a couple of times over the last week. He had to dig himself out of the house and there are 2m drifts by the street. The top of the valley was cut off for nearly 3 days and people weren't even allowed to leave the house due to avalanche risk up there. So... lots of snow, but just to look at (or shovel)!

Yeah, my buddies really are there and the pistes are closed but I don’t think the winds were quite that strong - happy to be corrected obvs - they said 80mph.

Verbier yesterday.

They stopped the lifts.

The one swinging wildly is empty but on the left has skiers in it...
